12th and Clairmount

12th and Clairmount,” looks back at the Detroit rebellion of 1967 — and its causes and aftermath. It uses more than 400 reels of donated home movies from the era, unearthed and archival footage, newly drawn illustrations and freshly recorded oral histories to tell the story of those five days in July that were among the most pivotal — and divisive — in the city’s history.

I was co-writer and lead producer on this film, but more importantly, it was my vision to create a film that was entirely driven by archival and found footage. I wanted to create an immersive experience for the audience that would visually transport them back the 60s era Detroit. I also managed the gathering of archival images, provided constant creative feedback on the edit as well as handled all the licensing, music supervision and budgets.
